This 18th edition wiring regulations course is for both newcomers to the electrical industry or for those wishing to update their existing qualifications to the current IET wiring regulations. This is an essential qualification for anyone looking to join a competent person scheme and self certify that their installation work meets current building and wiring regulation guidelines.

There are no entry requirements for this course, however we would recommend that those new to the industry with no installation experience consider taking our Electrical Course for Beginners first.

Course duration
The 18th Edition Wiring Regulations course takes place over 3 days. The core course times are Monday – Friday 9:00 AM – 4:30 PM. Please take a look at our course FAQs for further course information.
The exams
The exam for this 18th Edition qualification will be completed online. You will have 120 minutes to answer 60 multiple choice questions. You can take your Wiring Regulations book into the exam with you for reference.
Upon successful completion of the exam, you will receive a hard copy of your qualification certificate within 2-3 weeks.

How much does it cost to retake the 18th Edition Exam?
The exam resit fee is £45, but as you can see by our pass rate this is a rarely incurred extra cost.
Does it take a long time to get your 18th Edition Exam results?
No you will get the results on the day of your exam and take away paperwork confirming this.
How long does it take to get my pass certificate?
You can expect to receive this approximately 2-3 weeks after completing your exam.
What book do I need?
The book required is the 18th Edition (BS7671:2018), (ISBN 978-1-83953-218-4), we can pre-order a copy for £80.
What time does the course start and finish?
Our normal training day starts at 9:00 AM and Finishes at 4:30 PM. However there is rarely a normal day here at EC4U so training can usually carry on later for those that want a little more help or for those we identify as needing additional support.
Where does this course take place?
Near to Brighton in the South East and is classroom based.
I have my 17th Edition Wiring Regulations, do I need to update to the 18th Edition?
If you are currently working in the electrical industry, we highly recommend updating to most recent edition of the Wiring Regulations, which is currently the 18th Edition.
Why do I need to update to the 18th Edition Wiring Regulations?
All new installations must follow the most recent edition of BS7671 Wiring Regulations. In order to ensure you are meeting the latest requirements, it is recommended you upgrade to the 18th Edition as you may be working to out of date regulations. If you are a registered electrician with a Competent Person Scheme, you will be required to upgrade to the 18th Edition, if you haven’t done so already, before your renewal with the Scheme Provider.
Is the 18th Edition required for joining a Competent Person Scheme?
Yes, you are required to hold the 18th Edition qualification in order to join a competent person scheme and become a registered electrician.
I’m new to the electrical industry, can I do the 18th Edition?
Yes, there are no formal entry requirements to complete the 18th Edition course.

Is this the most up to date 18th Edition qualification?
Yes, this course and qualification will include the new Amendment 2, released in April 2022 and the latest Amendment 3, released in July 2024.
