FAQs

  • Who is this course for?

This course is designed for those with little to no practical experience. It has a much larger practical element making use of our purpose built mock flats where you will be able to put into practice everything you have learned in realistic scenarios.

  • What qualifications will I gain?

When you successfully pass the course you will gain the following three qualifications; Level 2 City & Guilds 2392 – Inspection Testing & Verification, 18th Edition Wiring Regulations, Level 3 City & Guilds 2393 – Part P of the Building Regulations.

  • Can I carry out electrical work after this course?

You will be able to carry out domestic electrical work after successfully completing the course. This means both minor electrical works such as adding to or making a change to an existing electrical circuit, and notifiable electrical work. With notifiable electrical work it is important to note that building control must be notified. You have two possible options when it comes to notifying building control. The first is to work directly with building control, handling the notification process yourself. The second is to join a government approved part p scheme and allow them to handle the notification process.

  • Will I be able to join a part p scheme after the course?

Depending on how much previous experience you have this will vary from individual to individual. Whilst the qualifications are necessary to apply to one of the schemes, the scheme providers normally ask for a minimum of 2 years experience before applying. Remember, this doesn’t mean you can’t carry out Notifiable work, just that you’ll have to handle notifying building control yourself. Different scheme providers may ask for different types of experience or evidence of experience, so make sure you contact them first to find out exactly what it is you need.

  • I don’t have any experience, how do I gain some?

There are several options open to you. One possible route is finding a local electrician who you can work alongside to gain the relevant experience. You can always carry out minor works as more of a gentle introduction to the industry and if any notifiable work does come up you can go through building control yourself. If you want to slowly build your confidence up carrying out work for family is always a possibility.

  • Can you help me after the course?

Once you have completed the course you will be invited to our unique, customer only forum. This is made up entirely of our previous customers who have all completed the same course as you. It can act as a great place for you to network with other electricians, and provides a warm and inclusive environment. We also provide a dedicated technical helpline for all our customers that will take you straight through to one of experienced trainers who will be able to offer support.
