The entry requirement for those learners taking the Electric Vehicle Charging qualification have now changed.
In order to take this qualification you must be a competent electrician and hold one of the qualifications listed below, with the relevant AM test; (e.g. AM2/S/E/D).
• Level 3 NVQ Diploma in Installing Electrotechnical Systems and Equipment (Buildings, Structures and the Environment)
• Level 3 NVQ Diploma in Electrotechnical Services (Electrical Maintenance)
• Level 3 Electrotechnical Qualification
• Level 3 in Electrotechnical Services Experienced Worker
• Level 3 NVQ in Electrotechnical Services – Electrical Installation (Building and Structures)
• Level 3 Electrotechnical Experienced Worker Qualification.
• Level 3 Electrotechnical in Dwellings
• EAL Building Services Engineering (Level 3) – Electrotechnical Installation
• Equivalent historical qualifications. See EAS Table 4B/4C, and the EAS Qualifications Guide
Or you must hold an ECS Gold Card, as a JIB Electrician, or Approved Electrician.
Who is the EAL EV Charging Course for?
Our EAL Level 3 EV Charging Course will allow you to offer your customers the installation of vehicle charging points. The EV charging course is ideal for either those who are registered with a Part P scheme provider or those who are planning to join one, with the intention of registering with the Government OZEV (Office of Zero Emission Vehicles) grant scheme, also known as the Electric Vehicle Homecharge Scheme.
EAL EV Charger Course Overview
The EAL Level 3 Award in the Requirements for the Installation of Electric Vehicle Charging Points 603/3929/9 has been designed to allow those looking to install electric vehicle charging equipment to gain a recognised qualification.
The course is designed to work with the IET Code of Practice for Electric Vehicle Charging Equipment Installation to give you the required knowledge to safely install charging equipment on domestic premises.

The general requirements for electrical installation including: protection from electric shock, circuit design, RCD protection, isolation and switching. - Electrical requirements for different types of installation
More specific requirements for dwellings, on street equipment, commercial and industrial. - Inspection and testing
Additional testing requirements, including functional testing.

Course duration
The EV charger course is an online learning course comprised of 10 learning modules and assessments to track your progress. The course has a recommended 8 hours of learning time.

The exams
Upon completion of the Electric Vehicle Charging Course, you will need to come to our training centre to sit an online multiple-choice exam consisting of 25 questions. You can take your IET Code of Practice for Electric Vehicle Charging Equipment Installation book with you for reference. Please call us on 01444 872145 when you are ready to take the exam.
Upon successful completion of the exam, you will receive a digital copy of your qualification certificate within 3 working days.

Entry requirements

Who is this EV Charger Course for?
This EV installation course is designed for currently practising and newly qualified electricians who wish to have a greater understanding of what is involved in installing electric vehicle charging equipment.
When I will receive my certificate?
You will receive a digital certificate within 3 working days of passing your exam.
What is OZEV (previously OLEV)?
OZEV (Office of Zero Emission Vehicles) is the part of the government that is responsible for promoting the uptake of electric vehicles. OZEV was previously known as OLEV (Office of Low Emission Vehicles).
What is the Electric Vehicle Homecharge Scheme grant?
The grant offered by OZEV allows an OZEV-authorised installer to claim 75% up to £350 of the installation costs back for their customers providing certain criteria are met.
